Farmhouse DIY Projects
The farmhouse look is perfect for DIY projects. Thinking back to my grandparent’s old farmhouses in the Osage of Oklahoma, many items were handmade. My grandma painted the old linoleum kitchen floor using stencils she cut from an old box. Then, my uncle made the coffee table used to play games by 11 grandkids. My dad wired the whole house when they first got electricity.
These are a few favorite projects I’ve created for our cabin
The lettering on this cracked plaster sign adds a French farmhouse look, but the cracked plaster is all rustic!
The hardest working chalkboard ever! This extra large calendar chalkboard cost less than $25 to make.
I can remember a stack of wooden crates in the old shed on the farm. Now I wish I knew what was inside! This wood crate holds a thrift store craft box. It has a dual purpose as a side table. Many things in old farmhouses have a dual purpose.
Farmhouse decor is simple. Farmhouse wreaths are simple like this boxwood wreath.
It was so fast and easy to make this farmhouse tray.

Here are simple and basic ideas to cheaply add the farmhouse look to your home.
- Stacked plates {display basic essentials: plates in a basket, empty vases along the mantel, utensils in old jars}
- Shabby books
- Farm equipment
- Mason jars for storage or this fabulous idea
- Nature {bring nature inside with wildflowers or fresh greens}
- Galvanized buckets {roll tea towel and store in a galvanized bucket}

This garden tool is a hook for an apron and tote. I remember grandma hanging a bunch of bananas on a nail in the pantry. Simple.
Rustic Finishes
It’s easy to add a farmhouse feel to thrift store furniture finds. This digital book is full of ideas like white chipped paint, blurred grains, how to raise the grain of new wood and how to age wood to look like barn wood.
