Did you know I do live videos to start each workday? Did you also know there are times I have no idea what I’m going to take 5 minutes before I go live?

Well, one of those times, the idea for a quick project turn out to be a hit on Pinterest!

Yep, these little book page tassels made in minutes is super popular.

First, let’s get to my book page disclaimer.

My old book disclaimer! I had reservations about using old books for crafts. We have 3 boxes of books gathered over the years, bought at yard sales and thrift shops stored in the garage. Most were not in good shape when I bought them. Many were green and blue for decorating a bookcase—the more tattered and torn, the better. We’ve moved the books several times, but for many years, they sit in storage. I had to get rid of some due to mold…yuck. But now that I’ve found some creative ways to reuse them, I feel we can love them all over again in their new life.

Now that’s out of the way,

Supplies to make a book page tassel

a page from a book
piece of twine about 12 inches long
Craft glue
Scissors

Just How Easy?

I’m including written steps or click here to watch the live recorded video or if you want it fast, check out the time-lapse video below.

First, tear the page from the book. I liked the torn edge, but you can trim the paper if you wish.

Second, fold the paper in half bring the top to meet the bottom. Then fold in half again.

Now, if you left the torn edges, start cutting from that edge into the paper folds, stopping about one inch to 3/4 of an inch from the other edge. This step makes the tassel part.

6-inch twine with knots in both ends

I’ve recently started making the loop that hangs the tassel first. I cut a piece of twine approximately six to eight inches. Then make a simple knot in each end.

When I start wrapping the twine to hold the tassel together at the top. I hold the two knots in place and wrap them in with the paper, yarn, or twine tassels.

Adding twine loop for the top of the tassel

To add the top, start wrapping the twine around the top several times. Tie then make a loop for hanging your cute book page tassel.
