You can Make a Seasonal All Year Craft Sign Fast
You know that leftover board from your latest project? Grab it and let’s make a craft sign for your home for all seasons.
Remember those winter, spring, summer, fall plaques that almost became as popular as the Beatles in the 60’s?
Mom’s was plastic in a lovely shade of gold. My aunt had a wicker seasonal set. Our neighbor made a needlepoint set.
Mine isn’t a “set” it’s only one that changes with the seasons. It’s a modern farmhouse seasonal sign.
First, paint a board
I started with a scrap board and painted it white. The board is 5 1/2 inches wide and 21 inches long. After two coats of white paint, I used a sanding sponge to add a little distress.
Lettering only some of the letters
Next, I create lettering for the HME only. I have another idea for the “O.”
I went all old school for the lettering. These are my steps.
- Print the letters {You can get my letters here if you wish. Note, to save a 1/1,000,000,000 of a drop of ink, I print in gray}
- Next, I aline the letters added a piece of painters tape along one edge of the paper.
- Now, I slide a piece of transfer paper under the lettering.
- Then it’s time to trace around the lettering
- Now for the paint, I use craft paint and my favorite lettering paintbrush. It’s available at the bottom of this post.
- Slowly fill in the lettering outline with paint. The brush makes this easy.
- Sometimes, I add a second coat of paint to the letters.
Now for the O
Make sure to leave space for a big round “O.” It’s a 4-inch embroidery hoop.
Add a small nail to hang the hoop. Then cut a piece of twine and wrap around the hoop. Tie on a small spray of faux greens for spring.
A bunch of faux grass for summer. Or seashells! 😉
A rusty leaf for autumn.
And a sweet bottle brush tree for winter. Have you tried to make a bottle brush tree from a real bottle brush?
