Thrifty Silver Tray

We’re evening TV watchers…along with most everyone else.  We do mini binge watching.  Mini is 2 or 3 each night of the same show.  It takes several mini binge nights to get through 128 episodes of Blue Bloods….but we did it!

My favorite part was the Sunday dinners.  The banter between Danny and Jamie.  Lessons learned from Grandpa…or many times the grandsons.  The final word from Frank.  Then an evening cocktail in beautiful glasses served from a sparkly crystal carafe sitting of silver trays.

Today I’m sharing my version with an adult tea recipe.

This silver tray is like any other thrifty silver tray found in any thrift store.  It was $2.  I used a silver cream to removed some of the grim.  The flat tray area had several dark areas that still remained.

So, I cut a 1/4 inch piece of plywood to fit inside the tray.  I used a palm sander to round the corners.

On one side I aged the plywood with tea and ironed vinegar.

The other side was painted with chalkboard paint.  Two coats.

The adult tea was made…because I’m not a whiskey drinker.  Except the time I got an inch and a half splinter through the middle of my finger.  I don’t like getting splinters of any kind or paper cuts.  It took several shots of whiskey to get that splinter out.

Here’s my adult tea recipe.

2 black tea bags
2 cups boiling water
2 ounces of Chambord Black Raspberry liquor.
2 large ice cubes
1/4 cup frozen blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries
2 teaspoons sugar or favorite sweetener if desired {I let the berries add sweetness}

Brew the tea bags in boiling water.  Let cool.  Add liquor to the tea.  Pour into a carafe…just for luxury. 🙂  Add ice cubes to two glasses.  Pour tea over ice and add frozen berries.  Enjoy…

responsibly!

We just finished mini binge watching Daredevil.  It was okay, but I zone out during the fight scenes.  I liked Jessica Jones better.  House of Cards had three good seasons and two I didn’t like.

We need some ideas for what to watch now.  What are you watching?

  1. Have you seen Longmire? It’s a god show. Continuum is interesting.
I like how you made the tray insert double sided. Love the chalkboard side.

    1. Cecilia, We enjoyed watching Longmire and haven’t heard about Contunuum. We’ll check it out after The Blacklist. Thank you. I’m having fun with the chalkboard side. I usually make unique drinks and unusual names, so the chalkboard side is handy.

  2. A) We’re Blue Bloods addicts. I’m a wiskey drinker. But one of my favorite lines is a blessing by Linda, Danny Sullivan wife..Lord Bless These Sinners As They Eat Their Dinners. I’ve used it many times.
    B) I just scored a great silver tray. I like this idea.
Next try a marathon of The Blacklist
