Steampunk Design
Steampunk Design and Farmhouse Industrial.
You may think this old lady has fallen off her rocker.
Steampunk!
Just hold tight and read along with me.
We all love the farmhouse style, right??
Within the farmhouse style, there’s farmhouse industrial. Farmhouse industrial is the chippy metal outdoor light hanging over the dining table. Also, it’s using pipes used to hang an old piece of wood for a shelf. Or it’s hanging a barn door.
We’re okay with those ideas, right??
So, let’s add a bit of Steampunk Design!
Steampunk Design
Steampunk, in my opinion, is movement. The simple movement of a complex set of gears or pullies to cause something. It’s fantasy and science. It’s funky fun.
Steampunk design is using this element in your decor. Framed Scientific drawings, slide rules, scientific tools and instruments, and gears. Do you remember the Mousetrap game? In my mind, the Mousetrap game is steampunk. When I was young I saw the commercials of the Mousetrap game and also wanted one. I never got one {as a child I didn’t ask for things like that} but I did get to play at the friend’s house.
Love it!!!

I thought about buying a Mousetrap game to add to our mantel! But instead, chose to make a couple of “stands” for gears.
I used scrap leftover pieces of wood and a spindle from an old chair.
To make a couple of gear stands.
Then I aged the wood using my favorite technique. Aging wood instantly, please click here, to read the how-to.
Now my steampunk design gears can stand in the middle of the coffee table!
More Steampunk Design
For a bit more steampunk design in our farmhouse living room, I redid a tall cloche. You can see the inspiration by clicking here.

I added a metal cup with mechanical pencils. The two black pencils belonged to my dad and the red one was grandpas. The slide rule was dads.
This rustic gear is a perfect fix to become the bottom of this glass cylinder. Plus notice the cloche filled with wood beads. Cool, right?
We bought new living room furniture. I will be sharing photos of our farmhouse steampunk design living room when everything is delivered.
In the meantime, I made a steampunk design printable to share with you.
I do realize steampunk design is not for everyone. I’m only including a couple of designs in our living room. Please let me know in comments below if steampunk would be something you might add. I’m still a farmhouse gal!!!
For now, I’ll set my rocking chair back up and wait for our furniture to arrive.

I’m a farmhouse girl too. For the past two hours, I have been scrolling through steampunk images, falling in love but fearing that it’s too fantastical for my family’s home. Glad I found this article!
Hi, Andrea! My suggestion is to add steampunk decor slowly. Add a gear to a bookcase or a magnifying glass on the coffee table or hang the free printable! 😉 I’m so happy you enjoyed the article. Stop back by again soon. You’re always welcome into our steampunk farmhouse website home. See you soon. ~Jeanette
Well, Becky, you and I may be the only ones. I think farmhouse and steampunk mix great. It reminds me of my grandparent’s old farmhouse. Just that the steampunk was old farm equipment.
Thanks for this! I thought I was the only one combining steampunk and farmhouse
